A kind-hearted police officer and a unique new baseball card highlight this week's uplifting tales:

  • Cop Buys Groceries for Shoplifting Mom: The routine part of this shoplifting story out of Miami is that police stopped a woman trying to leave a supermarket with $300 worth of unpaid-for food. The not-so-routine part: Upon hearing that the accused was a mother of three in dire straits, the arresting officer went back in the store and shelled out $100 from her own pocket to buy the woman groceries.
  • Batboy With Down Syndrome Gets Own Baseball Card: Ted Kremer served as a guest batboy for the Cincinnati Reds for only one day last year, but he still managed to earn himself a little piece of baseball history. Topps has featured the 30-year-old with Down Syndrome on an official MLB card.
  • Girl, 4, Runs Quarter-Mile in Dark to Save Her Dad: He's a former volunteer firefighter. She's his 4-year-old daughter. Guess which one ended up the hero? Little Cadence Lucas saved her dad by running about a quarter-mile down a dark dirt road to get help after he knocked himself unconscious.
  • Kidney Transplant Patient Marries His Donor: Kyle Froelich's kidneys were failing, and he'd been waiting for a good match—little did he know what his plight would bring him. Donor Chelsea Clair turned out to be a "perfect match" in more ways than one.
  • Strangers' Donations Help BU Student Stay in School: The crowd-funding site GoFundMe has come up big for a Boston University student in danger of having to drop out. As a last resort, sophomore Alexis Felix created a page on the site seeking donations when her family could no longer pay her tuition. She didn't expect much. She was very surprised.
