A historic change: The United States Postal Service will be making Sunday deliveries. But you won't be getting letters and bills that day; just Amazon packages. The USPS-Amazon deal, announced yesterday, starts immediately, and the struggling Postal Service is planning similar Sunday-delivery deals with other retailers. Unlike first-class mail delivery, package deliveries actually bring in money, and this way the USPS gets a leg up on FedEx and UPS, neither of which offer regular Sunday delivery.
For now, Sunday deliveries will only be made in Los Angeles and New York (and some surrounding areas), the New York Times reports. Next year, it will roll out to Dallas, Houston, New Orleans, Phoenix, and other cities. There will be no extra fee for Sunday deliveries, the LA Times notes. Meanwhile, the USPS is still wrestling with Congress over its plan to stop delivering mail on Saturdays, but even if that comes to pass, it would continue to deliver packages on Saturdays.
