Sports / NFL Too Little: NFL's $765M Concussion Deal Scrapped She worries it's too little to cover 20K players By Polly Davis Doig, Newser Staff Posted Jan 14, 2014 12:23 PM CST Copied In this April 9, 2013, file photo, former NFL player Kevin Turner, who suffers from Lou Gehrig's disease, speaks. (AP Photo/Matt Rourke, File) A federal judge today rejected a $765 million settlement between the NFL and players who suffered concussions, but maybe not for the reason one might think: US District Judge Anita Brody scrapped the deal on the grounds that the funds wouldn't be sufficient to cover nearly 20,000 players over the course of some 65 years. She's asking both sides for more financial details; of particular concern are retired players who haven't yet been diagnosed. Under the deal, as per the AP, players with Lou Gehrig's disease would be awarded $5 million; deaths resulting from brain trauma would get $4 million; and dementia cases $3 million.
