An American tourist has been detained in North Korea for allegedly committing an unspecified crime. The Korean Central News Agency says that authorities are investigating the American for committing "acts inconsistent with the purpose of a tourist visit." He is identified as Jeffrey Edward Fowle, who entered the country on April 29, but no details were immediately available about who he is or why he was visiting the country, notes the LA Times.
The person would be the third American currently held in North Korea. In April, North Korea said it had detained a 24-year-old American, Miller Matthew Todd, for improper behavior while he was being processed to enter the country as a tourist. He reportedly tore up his visa and said he wanted "shelter" in the nation. North Korea has also been holding a Korean-American missionary, Kenneth Bae, since November 2012. He was sentenced to 15 years of hard labor for what the North says were "hostile acts against the state." (More North Korea stories.)
