The NFL is a mess, with its reputation in the tank and its players unable to stay off the police blotter. Commissioner Roger Goodell bears a good deal of the responsibility, thanks to his inept leadership in recent years, writes Jonathan Capehart in the Washington Post. The awful Ray Rice tape—and really, the mighty NFL hadn't seen it until this week?—is but the latest example. The league needs a savior, and Capehart thinks he knows just the one: Condoleezza Rice.
If it sounds farfetched that a former secretary of state might want to guide a football league, remember that Rice herself expressed interest in the job more than a decade ago while still working at the White House. She's smart, she's a fan of the game—especially its parallels with military strategy—and the league desperately needs her. Goodell must go, writes Capehart.
