If Democrats want to retain control of the Senate, they'll have to win in Iowa, says Harry Reid. Speaking today to progressive activists, Reid said that if Rep. Bruce Braley beats Joni Ernst, Democrats will do "just fine." But if Ernst—who has recently led in polls, Politico reports—is victorious, then current minority leader "Mitch McConnell would be leader of the United States Senate."
Reid feels good about Democrats' chances in New Hampshire and North Carolina, Politico notes, but Iowa is "critical." Today, the party is hoping for a boost from Bill Clinton, who will speak on Braley's behalf in Des Moines and Waterloo as the Democrat fights for Sen. Tom Harkin's seat, KCCI reports. Harkin is retiring. (More Senate stories.)
