If you've ever dreamed of playing a video game where you get to control Kanye West's deceased mother, you're a strange person, but a lucky one. Kanye told the Breakfast Club radio show a few days ago that he has spent six months designing a game based on his mother's afterlife, Paste reports. "The idea is that it's my mother going through the gates of heaven," he said, "and you've got to bring her to the highest gate of heaven by holding her to the light." He explained that the game is based on his recent song "Only One."
West's mother died after cosmetic surgery in 2007. In the gaming world, people are a little puzzled by the concept but are wishing Kanye well. "I'm a firm believer in the power of the video game as memorial, and I imagine the game design process is quite cathartic for an artist who was obviously deeply affected by his mother's passing," writes Mike Fahey at Kotaku. No word on when—or if—the game will be released to the public. (The week after his mother's death, Kanye broke down when he tried to sing "Hey Mama" at a Paris concert.)
