Former secretary of defense Leon Panetta says he's worked with nine presidents from both parties and Hillary Clinton is more prepared than any of them to keep America safe and prosperous. "She is smart, she is principled, she is tough, and she is ready," Panetta told the Democratic National Convention on Wednesday night. As secretary of state, Clinton was one of the firmest voices for going after Osama bin Laden, he said. He said Clinton made it clear that "no one attacks the United States of America and gets away with it." Panetta said Clinton is just as determined to go after ISIS and others who threaten American safety today.

At the same time, Panetta slammed Donald Trump for praising dictators and getting his foreign policy experience from the Miss Universe pageant. "This is no time to gamble with our future," he said. "In an unstable world, we cannot afford unstable leadership." He said Trump asking for Russian hackers to interfere with an American election is proof of his unfitness to be president. "It is inconceivable to me that any presidential candidate would be that irresponsible." (More Democratic National Convention stories.)
