Vice President Joe Biden fired up the Democratic National Convention crowd on Wednesday, delivering a rousing, patriotic endorsement of Hillary Clinton and condemnation of Donald Trump. He praised the "unbreakable spirit of the people of America" and insisted that "it's never, never, never been a good bet to bet against America." Biden said Donald Trump, like others before him, will fail by appealing to fear. "We do not scare easily," he said. Biden said Trump's cynicism and lack of empathy are evident in his most famous phrase. "How can there be pleasure in saying, 'You're fired?'" he asked, calling the idea that Trump cares about the middle class "malarkey."

Biden said that after 30 years of knowing Clinton, he knows "what she's passionate about," and that includes easing the costs of healthcare and college for American families. He said Clinton's life story has been about helping those who need helping. "That's not Donald Trump's story," Biden said. "He has no clue what makes America great. Actually, he has no clue, period." But "Hillary gets it." "We are America, second to none," Biden reiterated to a cheering crowd. (More Joe Biden stories.)
