Donald Trump's transition team has requested information from the State Department regarding "gender-related staffing, programming, and funding," the Washington Post reports. Both the Post and the New York Times got their hands on a copy of the memo. The request specifies programs that “promote gender equality, such as ending gender-based violence, promoting women’s participation in economic and political spheres, entrepreneurship, etc.” It also sought to identity "positions whose primary functions are to promote such issues." Such programs deal with women's and gender issues at home and abroad.
The programs are also part of Hillary Clinton's legacy as Secretary of State, the Times reports. Employees are worried the Trump administration is going to try to get rid of programs that deal with women's equality or is taking a first step toward weeding out LGBT programs. It's unclear why exactly the transition team wants the information. “The Trump team could be looking to advance gender issues and make it a priority—or you could look at it as a witch hunt," a State Department official tells the Post. The transition team tried something similar last week when it asked the Energy Department for the names of people involved in climate change work.
