Boy, 2, Dies After More Than 5 Hours in Hot SUV

Yet another child has died after being left in a hot car all day. The latest tragic death was in Brandon, Fla., where 2-year-old Jacob Manchego died Tuesday after being left for more than five hours in an SUV outside the day care center where his half sister worked, WFLA reports. Temperatures in the Tampa Bay area hit 86 degrees that day, tying the record. Police say the half sister, 21-year-old Fiorella Silva-Tello, left the boy in the car from 9am until 2:30pm. When she discovered the unconscious boy, she rushed him to a nearby dialysis center, Fox News reports. Workers there tried to help the boy, but it was too late. He died later that afternoon after being taken to a local hospital.

Police say the half sister was "upset" and "distraught" after finding Jacob. Hillsborough County Sheriff's spokesman Larry McKinnon tells the Tampa Bay Times that charges against the half sister are possible. He says the investigation into Jacob's death will leave "no stone unturned"—and he wants the death to be a reminder of "what we should do when transporting our children."
