"It's game on mthrfkers." Not the likeliest slogan for a political campaign, but there you have it. No, Kid Rock isn't saying he's actually running for the US Senate ... but he is saying that, were he to run, it would be a campaign like none you've seen before. "Since the announcement [that he was considering a run], the media has speculated this was a ploy to sell shirts or promote something. I can tell you, I have no problem selling Kid Rock shirts and yes, I absolutely will use this media circus to sell/promote whatever I damn well please (many other politicians are doing the same thing, they just feed you a bunch of bulls--- about it)," the rocker writes in a post on his website. He says he is officially exploring his candidacy.
That means he's creating a 501(c)(4) nonprofit specifically to promote and raise money for voter registration, and any money he does raise selling shirts and whatnot will go toward those "register to vote" efforts, which he will also promote at his shows. Kid Rock would presumably be running for the Michigan Senate seat as a Republican, and in his post he notes that "the democrats are 'shattin' in their pantaloons' right now ... and rightfully so!" He's already launched kidrockforsenate.com, and he says he's going to be putting out his "ideas on ways to help working class people in Michigan and America all while still calling out these jackass lawyers who call themselves politicians." As for whether those ideas will amount to a bona fide campaign platform, he says he'll be scheduling a press conference "in the next 6 weeks or so," but media outlets are taking the post as him "tabling" or "holding off on" a run in favor of get-out-the-vote efforts.
