Good news for vegans: Dr. Martens offers vegan boots they can buy. Bad news? Some of those vegan boots could end up exposing them to the chemical benzidine, Consumerist reports. The Consumer Product Safety Commission is recalling about 30,000 pairs of the $125 boots, warning that "prolonged and direct contact" with the lining of the shoe's tongue can lead to chemical exposure. Benzidine is used to make dyes for cloth, paper, and leather, but is no longer used commonly in the US. Prolonged exposure to it has been linked to possible skin allergy. See the Dr. Martens official site to find out if your vegan boots are affected and how to get a refund or replacement. (More product recall stories.)
