Kentucky Has Pair of Newly Poured Bourbon Ponds
Whiskey barrels are piled in a heap Wednesday, July 4, 2018, after the rest of the Barton 1792 Distillery, a whiskey storage warehouse, collapsed in Bardstown, Kentucky, nearly two weeks after part of the decades-old structure came crashing down.   (WLKY-TV, CBS Louisville via AP)

Willie Nelson might've implored a whiskey river to wash his blues away, but the Barton 1792 Distillery in Kentucky has a couple of brand new, relatively unanticipated bourbon ponds, reports the Louisville Courier-Journal. After the partial collapse of a warehouse last month sent up to 9,000 barrels crashing down, killing about 800 fish in nearby waterways, the seven-story structure fully collapsed on Wednesday with another 9,000 or so casualties. This time, though, the spillage went into two retention ponds, which now contain around 120,000 gallons of Kentucky's liquid gold, notes the AP. The second half of the warehouse was "unable to be secured ... due to workers' safety concerns," per Barton parent company Sazerac. "It is unknown at this time how many barrels can be salvaged," but "we have no indications that there's anything going in the water." (More bourbon stories.)
