Pete Buttigieg won the Iowa caucuses, according to the state Democratic Party—but many news outlets are refusing to call a winner, citing errors and inconsistencies in the results. The Iowa Democratic Party said Sunday, almost a week after the caucuses, that Buttigieg would be awarded 14 of the state's 41 delegates to the Democratic National Convention, NBC reports. The party said Bernie Sanders would be awarded 12 delegates; Elizabeth Warren, 8; Joe Biden, 6; and Amy Klobuchar, 1. Soon after the results were released, Faiz Shakir, Sanders' campaign manager, confirmed that Sanders would be seeking a partial recanvass of the results, reports the New York Times.

Sanders campaign officials say they are confident that the recanvass, which would involve an audit of the precinct worksheets, would put the candidate on top, reports the Washington Post. Sanders won the popular vote by around 6,000 votes. Sanders told CNN on Sunday that the bungled reporting of caucus results was a "disgrace" and an "embarrassment." "They screwed it up badly, is what the Iowa Democratic Party did," Sanders said. Democratic National Committee Chairman Tom Perez, who has also called for a recanvass, told the network that he was "mad as hell" about the chaos in Iowa. He said the debacle could lead to the end of Iowa's first-in-the-nation status—and of the holding of caucuses instead of primaries. (Read more Iowa caucuses stories.)
