The Florida-Oklahoma championship game will be broadcast by Fox Sports live in 3D in 80 movie theaters across the US tomorrow in what is being hailed as a breakthrough event. Fans will pay up to $22 to watch the action through plastic 3D glasses. Every sport and network is closely monitoring the event, reports the Wall Street Journal.
Network executives are unsure how fans will take to 3D broadcasts and watching a game sitting still in a theater—and whether the technologically complex events can be profitable. "You are always going to stick your toe in the water before you jump in over you head," said a Fox Sports executive. At least one fan was excited. "Theater seating would seem stadium-like, and I assume the sound would be appropriate to give you the 'being there' feel," he said.
