How the Palin Machine Turned on Levi
In this Sept. 3, 2008 file photo, Bristol Palin, daughter of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, and her then-boyfriend Levi Johnston are seen at the Republican National Convention in St. Paul, Minn.   (AP Photo/Charles Rex Arbogast, File)

Once, the Palins defended Levi Johnston—but after he appeared on talk shows discussing his relationship with Bristol, the Palin “Truth Squad” wasted no time turning its venom on him, writes Dan Fagan in the Anchorage Daily News. “It's clear Palin is aware of her base and is practicing Levi damage control,” Fagan writes, when not long ago, the Palin machine painted him as a “helpless, innocent, persecuted victim.”

Now the squad, voiced by Sarah Palin spokeswoman Meghan Stapleton, has charged him with “flat-out lies” and “gross exaggeration” in a quest for fame and fortune. Meanwhile, the squad says Bristol has realized her “mistake” in the relationship. How, Fagan wants to know, will baby Tripp feel when he grows up to find his grandma “wants the world to know” his mother considers his father “a big mistake”?
