Avatar and The Hangover captured the top film awards, Meryl Streep and Drew Barrymore charmed with stream-of-consciousness acceptance speeches, and host Ricky Gervais generally behaved at tonight's Golden Globes ceremony. Jeff Bridges and Sandra Bullock established themselves as Academy Award favorites with victories in the leading dramatic role categories, as did Mo'Nique and Christoph Waltz of Inglourious Basterds in the supporting categories.
In the TV categories, Mad Men surprised no one by capturing best drama, but Glee scored an upset, defeating both 30 Rock and The Office for best comedy. Toni Collette of United States of Tara foiled 30 Rock mastermind Tina Fey's bid for a third straight lead actress in a comedy nod; Fey's co-star Alec Baldwin won his category but didn't attend the ceremony.
