Dana Milbank has finished reading Karl Rove's book, and it nearly made him "choke on a pretzel." He marvels at Rove's unapologetic rewrite of history on everything from the Iraq war, to torture, to Katrina, to the deficit. In fact, the near-perfect recall falters only on the Valerie Plame scandal. How odd. Rove has had two-plus years to reflect, and "his lessons learned are those of a job applicant who claims that his greatest weakness is being too conscientious," writes Milbank at the Washington Post.
"He doesn't regret the Iraq war; he regrets that he did not attack the war's critics more fiercely. He doesn't regret the administration's bungling of the Katrina response; he regrets the lack of Republican leadership in Louisiana." If Rove is telling the truth, Milbank, a former White House beat reporter, would like to offer this correction: "Every article about George W. Bush ever written by Dana Milbank was wrong. The Post regrets the error." (More Karl Rove stories.)
