If you hadn't heard, the House votes on a little thing some like to call health care reform today—and the debate got an early start on the Sunday shows with Democrats signaling they had the votes, and Republicans digging in their heels. David Plouffe and Karl Rove also went mano a mano, reports Politico, with Rove proclaiming the bill a "disaster" that Dems would pay for in November. Plouffe responded by inviting him to pull out his "Mission Accomplished" banner. Elsewhere:

  • More cautious than John Larson, Steny Hoyer nevertheless vowed, "We’re going to have the votes this afternoon." And never fear November: "We’re going to win the House back.”
  • Dems still don't have the votes, Bart Stupak says, and "Until we get matters signed, sealed and delivered, our votes are still no."
  • John Boehner doesn't think Dems have the votes, either, and he's still vowing to "have a bill on the floor the first thing" to repeal it.
  • And for those who fear doomsday, "it’s not going to be Armageddon, there's not going to be death panels. In fact, people are going to see the benefits," Chris Van Hollen told Face the Nation.
  • Maybe not Armageddon, but Orrin Hatch thinks maybe worse: “We’re coming to a Europeanization of America."
  • As for Tea Partiers who slapped Dems yesterday with gay and racial slurs, RNC Chair Michael Steele says it was just "[s]ome idiots out there saying some very stupid things."
