Yankees Pull Off Triple Play

The Yankees lost last night, but not before pulling off one of the rarer feats in baseball: the triple play. With two men on and nobody out in the sixth, Kurt Suzuki hit a grounder to Alex Rodriguez, who coolly stepped on the bag and fired it to second, where Robinson Cano just as swiftly flipped it to Nick Johnson to complete the 5-4-3 trick.

It was the first time the Yankees have turned a triple play since June 3, 1968—which is to say, 6,632 games ago, the New York Daily News reports. “I stepped on the bag and just threw a little Hail Mary to Robbie,” A-Rod said. “Robbie did a great job turning it.” Pitcher CC Sabathia was certainly grateful. “That was just straight lucky,” he said.
