Sharron Angle wants to do away with a law banning political endorsements from tax-exempt places of worship, according to a questionnaire obtained by AP. The Nevada Senate hopeful—whose views on the separation of church and state have become an issue in the race—said clergy should be allowed to endorse candidates from the pulpit, contrary to a tax law that has been in place since 1954.
A spokesman for Angle says she "believes it is improper for the federal government to use the threat of revoking tax-exempt status against churches and pastors." Angle's answers on the questionnaire make it clear that if she was elected, she would be one of the most conservative members of Congress on social issues. The Republican opposes laws allowing gay couples to adopt children, and says she would vote in favor of outlawing abortion "in all cases."
