Zombies may not be rising up and seeking out tasty brains, but zombie culture is. And now a University of Baltimore professor is offering an English 333 course focusing on the undead, reports the Baltimore Sun. Arnold Blumberg's class will feature studies around zombie films and comics. Students also will have an option to devise screenplays and storyboards for their own zombie movie projects.
"Zombies are one of the most potent, direct reflections of what we're thinking moment to moment in our culture," Blumberg says. It's no frivolity, adds the chair of the university's school of communications design: "It's a back door into a lot of subjects. They think they're taking this wacko zombie course, and they are. But on the way, they learn how literature and mass media work, and how they come to reflect our times." (More zombies stories.)
