Russia unleashed more attacks on the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv on Monday, this time solely with kamikaze drones made by Iran. While some were shot down, at least five successful strikes caused major damage to buildings and infrastructure and at least three deaths, said Mayor Vitaly Klitschko. Drones are being used more and more by Russia, and "the low buzzing of these slow-moving weapons is becoming familiar across the country," per the BBC. Iran has sent Russia hundreds of the weapons, which are packed with explosives and relatively cheap at about $20,000 each.
Monday's strikes on Kyiv appeared to be aimed at the city's electrical infrastructure, with Moscow trying to "make life miserable for Ukrainians even as Russian forces face setbacks on the battlefield," per the New York Times. “The enemy can attack our cities, but it won’t be able to break us,” said a message on the Telegram channel of Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky, per the Wall Street Journal. Russia recently renewed missile attacks on the capital city following an assault on a Russian-controlled bridge to Crimea, though Vladimir Putin said last week that he did not see any more major strikes as necessary.
